CINEA Innovation Fund
Description
The Innovation Fund focuses on highly innovative technologies and big flagship projects with European value added that can bring on significant emission reductions. The aim is to share the risk with project promoters to help with the demonstration of first-of-a-kind highly innovative projects.
Scoring Criteria
Here are five key questions to ask yourself if you want to hit full marks on the Innovation Fund
- What is the greenhouse gas emission avoidance of your project - does it out-compete the benchmarks in your category?
- Is your technology truely a break through innovation compared to the state of the art?
- Is the project sufficiently mature - will you reach financial close within 4 years?
- Do you have sufficient demonstration of the technology to TRL6?
- Do you have a site secured and a credible permitting timeline?
- Do you have sufficient investment to co-finance the project and interested off-takers?
- Does the project contribute to Europe’s industrial leadership and competitiveness?
- Is the project cost efficient - does it meet the minimum cost per tonne of CO2eq avoided?

The Innovation Fund rests heavily on GHG emission avoidance figures and accurate accouning of the relevant costs. These can be dificult to navigate and have caught out many leading projects in the past.
